Maya was a really special girl, always keen to please and so easy to live with. She had a long show career, qualifying for Crufts at her first ever show as a puppy at just 6 months and becoming a show champion at the age of 4 having won the CC and RBIS at East Anglia LRC 2013 under Keith Wallington (Balnova), the CC and BoB at Gundog Society of Wales 2013 under Maxine Crocker-Williams (Alkamhurst), the RCC at West of England Labrador Club 2013 under Sheelin Cuthbert (Ballyduff) and her crowning CC at Midland Counties 2014 under Penny Carpanini (Carpenny).
She achieved her SGWC in December 2014 making her the first full champion chocolate labrador in nearly 40 years and the first ever chocolate show champion, then champion, bred in Scotland. In 2013 Maya won the Good Citizen class AND Best Working Labrador Bitch in the BASC ring at Crufts - some achievement! Maya was very lightly shown in 2015, but won Best In Show at North West LRC open show and a further two Reserve CCs. In 2016 she won the CC and BOB at WELKS under Anne Taylor (Fabracken) and went on to be shortlisted in a strong gundog group. She won Best Veteran in Breed awards at championship shows and won a Reserve CC at the grand age of 9 and a half!
Maya was a useful dog to have on a shoot too, with a great memory, a super nose and plenty of drive.
