We are located in rural scenery near Lockerbie, South West Scotland, yet just minutes from the M74 motorway. We own and breed all types of labradors - show bred, trial-bred and half-show/half-trial. We pick up up to 6 days a week on grouse, pheasants and partridges, enjoying some fabulous scenery in one of the UK's best known commercial sporting estates. My current team is mostly composed of half working/half show labradors - I generally find them easy to train with super noses, excellent game finding ability and they are less injury prone due to that little bit extra coat and substance. We enjoy local working tests too during the summer and have previously had awards with show bred chocolates and 'half bloods' against fully trial bred dogs each time.
We also have a bit of a soft spot for cockers, so don't be surprised to see one kicking about here!
I am proud to have bred two full Champion chocolates - the first of which was the first ever Scottish chocolate show champion who then became the first full UK champion chocolate for over 35 years after gaining her SGWC - as well as champions abroad and many other CC and RCC winners at home and abroad, all chocolate. Most of the adult show dogs bred here have their stud book numbers, making them qualified for Crufts for life. Lots of our dogs have gained their Show Gundog Working Certificate on game or their Gundog Working Certificate or working test awards over the years, proving that chocolates can have brains and ability as well as looks!
All our dogs are health tested before breeding from them - hips, elbows, eyes and DNA tests including the recently added labrador tests for MCD (an eye condition in show bred labradors) and Stargardt (a form of PRA in all types of labradors); well above the standards required by the Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme. Our stud dogs are DNA profiled too as are many of the girls. While I refuse to adhere to the uwarranted craze for 'clear to clear' matings, I do so because I take account of health, type and temperament when breeding and my aim is to produce good looking, biddable labradors capable of doing the job they were designed for - a multi-purpose labrador. As nearly all our puppies go as family pets, our aim is to try to ensure that when they do go to their new families they go as happy, healthy, well-socialised, sensible puppies, well used to children and the other dogs and expected to become much loved family members, whether or not they have an additional job..
We have a team of fully health-tested stud dogs in black and chocolate available to health tested bitches; feel free to call or email for a chat about using any of the boys or for advice in how to go about breeding a litter from your bitch.
. I am a member of various labrador and gundog clubs; on the committee of Northumberland & Durham Labrador Club and I am on the Labrador Breed Council 'A' list of judges..
